LRIS Seminars for Public Safety Professionals and Labor Attorneys
LRIS offers a wide range of seminars designed for any individual involved in public safety labor relations. Each year, more than 1,000 people attend our seminars, including chiefs, representatives of labor organizations, personnel and labor relations specialists, attorneys, and rank-and-file law enforcement officers and firefighters.

At LRIS, we make the following commitments about our seminars:

  • You will always receive the latest, most up-to-date information.
  • Our speakers, who we recruit on a nationwide basis, will be professionals with years of experience in personnel and labor issues.
  • Our program will always have a balance of management and labor speakers, all of whom will have prepared extensive written materials.
  • Our seminars will be held in comfortable, reasonably priced hotels located in cities which are enjoyable to visit.
Our upcoming Seminars:

The Rights Of Police Officers

Our flagship seminar, first offered 25 years ago, covers the most important issues confronting those involved in law enforcement labor and personnel issues, including basic principles of constitutional rights, topics such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, freedom of speech, the right to privacy, due process rights in the disciplinary process.

“The class was very well put together, probably the only class I have been to that had a schedule and kept it. All the instructors were great. Can’t wait to attend this type of seminar again.”
Ernie Romero, Santa Fe County, NM Deputy Sheriff’s Association.

Collective Bargaining For Public Safety Employees

This seminar presents experienced negotiators from both management and labor sides of the table. It covers the scope of bargaining from what topics are hot for bargaining, model contract language, the nuts and bolts of the bargaining process, and unfair labor practices.

“As County Counsel I attend a large number of conferences on a variety of legal issues. This is one of the best because of its balanced approach.”
David Prentice, Madera County, California Counsel.

The ABCs Of Federal Employment Laws You Need To Know

NEW!!
Offered for the first time and for all public employees, this seminar will examine the alphabet soup of federal laws and how they relate to public employees - the ADA, the ADEA, the FMLA, the FLSA, PDA, Title VII, USERRA, HIPAA, OSHA, COBRA.

The ABCs Of Federal Employment Laws You Need To Know, has been approved for 12.5 (General) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

The use of this seal is not an endorsement by HRCI of the quality of the program. It means that this program has met HRCI’s criteria to be pre-approved for recertification credit.

Grievances, Arbitration & Past Practices

Learn the basic principles of grievances and arbitration, receive examples of overtime clauses in collective bargaining agreements, the elements of just cause and disciplinary grievances, the impact of past practice on collective bargaining, and get an arbitrator's perspective of the arbitration process.

“Each time I attend I learn something that affects or has affected our agency. The information provided is a must have for both labor and management.”
